Auburn University makes history with Cam Newton’s NFL MVP victory

Former Auburn quarterback Cam Newton won the NFL’s MVP award on Saturday night after a phenomenal season with the Carolina Panthers. The NFL MVP only takes into account the regular season, during which Newton threw for 3,847 yards and 35 touchdowns. He also accounted for 636 yards and 10 touchdowns on the ground. He has more seasons with 300 passing yards and 500 rushing yards than any other quarterback in NFL history.

With the award being given to Newton, Auburn University made a little history of its own. Never in the history of the National Football League or MLB has any school ever had alumni win the MVP in both leagues during the same season. Cam Newton won the NFL MVP, and former Auburn baseball star Josh Donaldson recently won the American League Most Valuable Player Award in the MLB last November

So if you’re an Auburn alumnus, that’s some good bragging rights to have in your back pocket as you’re sitting around watching Super Bowl 50.
