Florida lands huge verbal commit from 2016 four-star QB formerly committed to LSU

Florida, after losing to its in-state rival Florida State 27-2 on Saturday night has had a busy day on the recruiting trail on Sunday. On the same day its 2016 class picked up two verbal commits from a JUCO wide receiver and an offensive guard, Florida landed arguably it’s biggest win on the recruiting trail yet in four-star quarterback Feleipe Franks (6-foot-5, 220 pounds, Crawfordville, Fl.), who verbally committed to the Gators on Twitter.

Franks verbally decommitted from LSU on Nov. 23, shortly after taking an unofficial to Gainesville on Nov. 21. Franks is the fifth ranked pro style quarterback in the 2016 class according to 247Sports. Florida was in dire need of a big time quarterback in the 2016 class — its lone quarterback committed was two-star prospect Kyle Trask out of Texas. Franks is a prostyle quarterback that will fit in head coach Jim McElwain’s scheme, but don’t be surprised if he redshirts a year like Will Grier did. Regardless, this is a huge get for the Gators.
