During Will Muschamp’s press conference yesterday, it was announced that Jeff Driskel will be the starting quarterback for the LSU game.
Muschamp also said his staff didn’t make a decision until Treon Harris was suspended indefinitely by the University Athletic Association.
“Jeff will start the game,” Muschamp said. “We had not made a decision off the last game, who would start the game. Jeff was going to play in the game, I do know that.”
Driskel has struggled all season. Last Saturday against Tennessee, Driskel’s numbers were atrocious: 11/23, 59 yards and three interceptions. According to Daniel Jeremiah of NFL.com, NFL teams have taken notice as well.
“(Driskel) looks the part, but he’s exhibited almost no feel for playing the position,” the source said. “I’ve been very patiently waiting to be impressed,” an NFC player personnel director said.
Harris’ suspension left the team no other options to start the LSU game. Skyler Mornhinweg has no business ever getting first-team reps and true freshman Will Grier just got healthy, after sitting out with back spasms.
So, Jeff Driskel it is. Don’t expect a monster game from him. Let’s just hope he does enough to get the win on Saturday night.
