Ahmad Black's Crushing Hit Set the Tone in Florida's 2008 SEC Title

Much like the 2020 SEC Championship game, the Florida Gators didn't care about Alabama's undefeated record going into the 2008 SEC Championship game. Alabama entered No. 1 in the AP Poll and Florida was No. 2. The game was essentially a play-in game for the national championship.

Tim Tebow led the Gators to their second national championship appearance in three seasons after defeating Alabama in the SEC Championship. Tebow threw for 216 yards and 3 touchdowns, en route to being named the MVP.

The win wasn't an easy one, however. Florida was down in the fourth quarter, 20-17, but Tebow led the Gators down the field to take the lead when ultimately Jeff Demps hurdled over a Crimson Tide defender to put the Gators on top, 24-20.

The play of the game, however, may have been on defense. Ahmad Black laid a bone-crushing hit on Alabama wide receiver Darius Hanks on a crossing route within the first two minutes of the game.

You can hear the crowd in Atlanta instantly erupt. Even one broadcaster let out a "wow!"

The Gators never looked back. And you already know what happened a month later. Florida won the national championship over Oklahoma, 24-14.

As the two-loss Gators prepare for a showdown against the undefeated Crimson Tide, let's hope they can channel a few massive hits like this one.
