Amid cries of thousands of Gators fans calling for Jeff Driskel to be benched, Will Muschamp is showing his continued faith in the quarterback.
During the SEC teleconference on Wednesday, Muschamp, once again, said Driskel gives the Gators the best chance to win.
But, he did say Treon Harris continues to improve in practice. Don’t be surprised if you see Treon Harris get some snaps in the Tennessee game. Harris has a full week to get prepared for some playing time since the Gators are off this weekend.
I’m all aboard the bench Jeff Driskel train, but what you must realize is that if Muschamp thought the true freshman could step right in and win SEC games — Harris would be starting. Muschamp knows his job is on the line — he hears the criticism loud and clear. If he thought Treon could save his job, Treon would be starting. But giving Harris some snaps in game situations could give this inept offense a spark. We’ve seen Harris complete two passes, granted they were touchdown passes, but we haven’t seen him run an offense against a SEC defense for an entire game. Even still, Muschamp made it clear that Driskel needs to improve.
I’m excited to see what Harris can do against Tennessee and how the coaching staff uses him. We all know that it can’t be much worse than what we’ve experienced as of now.
