Five-star DE Nolan Smith had two drastically different responses on his commitment status

Yikes.

Five-star defensive end Nolan Smith has been committed to Georgia since late January of this year, but it's starting to sound like he isn't too sure about the verbal commitment now. In an interview with 247Sports he initially said he was solid with the Bulldogs, but when he was asked a second time about it, he seemed to completely backtrack on it.

"It is still open," Smith said. "I am still visiting other schools and everything like that."

One of those schools he'll be visiting will likely be Clemson as he mentioned them as one of the three schools recruiting him hard back in May along with UGA and Alabama. He also has two teammates committed there in Xavier Thomas and Mike Jones Jr.

"A lot of my teammates are Clemson Tigers and I know a lot of people up there at Clemson from the players to everybody," Smith said. "We are real close and even their starting tight end Milan Richard is from Savannah. We are just that close."

It sounds like the Tigers might be making up some serious ground on the Dawgs for now and there's plenty of time until he signs a National Letter of Intent in either December or February. The 6'3", 223-pound weak side defensive end playing for IMG Academy in Florida is ranked as the No. 3 player in the entire country by the 247Sports Composite Rankings and the No. 2 player at his position.
