Major changes coming after coordinator has been canned at top SEC school

This one comes out of nowhere.

Ole Miss had the most disappointing season of any team in the SEC this year, and head coach Hugh Freeze is making several changes to the coaching staff as a result.

Less than two weeks after defensive coordinator Dave Wommack announced his retirement, the school announced co-offensive coordinator Dan Werner will not return after five years in Oxford.

It's understandable why the Rebels didn't want Wommack to return, considering Ole Miss had one of the worst defenses in the SEC this season. However, parting ways with Werner is a bit strange considering he was responsible for quarterback development. Werner coached Bo Wallace and Chad Kelly, who were among the most prolific passers in school history.

The school also announced assistant athletic director Barney Farrar has been fired. Farrar was placed on administrative leave in November. Farrar was mentioned in controversial text messages reportedly between former Rebels offensive tackle Laremy Tunsil and director of football operations John Miller last April. When Tunsil told Miller he needed money for rent, Miller allegedly said, "see Barney next week."
