Interim Carolina coach Elliott fires back at reports that he quit after Citadel loss

The Gamecocks fell even farther Saturday after a 23-22 loss to The Citadel, and the Twitter rumor mill immediately started churning with tweets that interim coach Shawn Elliott had stepped down.

It was also suggested that offensive coordinator G.A. Mangus had replaced Elliott as interim coach. The tweets were later found to be fake, but ended up causing quite the controversy on social media.

Elliott quickly refuted the claims with his own series of tweets.

Elliott’s five games as interim head coach since taking over for Steve Spurrier last month have been laced with turbulence. The former offensive line coach has gone 1-4 and has not been discussed as a possibility for the permanent head coaching position.

South Carolina 3-8 (1-7) will wrap up its season next week at home against No. 1 Clemson.
