SEC Media Days, which kick off in almost a week, will bring something brand new to the annual event in Birmingham, Ala. The league staff announced that each school would be sending one student-athlete who has a compelling story off the field. The initiative will be called “Beyond The Field: Stories of the SEC.” South Carolina will be bringing junior placekicker Elliott Fry, who has excelled on the field despite suffering from Type I Diabetes. Here’s what the official release had to say regarding the Gamecock star kicker:

Elliott Fry reached his dream of playing college football at the highest level despite suffering from Type I Diabetes. In fact, he is one of the best in the conference at his position, earning second team All-SEC honors in 2014 and he will be a Lou Groza Award candidate in 2015. He works regularly with the Junior Diabetes Research Foundation in South Carolina.

South Carolina head coach Steve Spurrier and student-athletes are scheduled to speak at the event on Tuesday, Jul. 14 from 9a.m.-12:20p.m.
