Developers of Darkest Dungeon promise 'exciting new content and features' in first expansion

The new hero class will be “awash in blood and delusion.”

The developers of rogue-like dungeon crawler Darkest Dungeon have announced the arrival of the game's first major expansion, The Crimson Court.

Currently the DLC is scheduled for a release on PC, Mac, and Linux on June 19th. PSN owners have not yet been given an actual date yet, though the developers at Red Hook Studios have stated that they "are targeting the following month."

"At Red Hook, we're working around the clock on the exciting new content and features that will be coming to Hamlet next month. Drawing hands are sore, spreadsheets are bursting with data, and eyes are blurry, but our own excitement is pushing us ever forward! We've been pretty tight-lipped on details but we'll be revealing more information in the coming weeks including screenshots, boss teases, and a comprehensive look at the new class."

As mentioned above, The Crimson Court will come with a new hero class, which has been vaguely described as "awash in blood and delusion," on the developer's blog post. Other features in the new expansion include a new type of wandering boss, a new region for players to explore, four other smaller bosses, a full faction of "new, deadly foes," and several other maps and districts.

Veterans of  Darkest Dungeon will recall its almost sadistic mechanics, which frequently turned players away from ever finishing the game.

Seriously, it's that brutal.

Entire teams with countless hours of experience navigating the corridors of Darkest Dungeon would be suddenly defeated on the flip of a coin. Many cited this random nature as the reason they quit the game, unwilling to invest time and energy into defeating an opponent that seemed capable of defying all strategies.

For those  still willing to enter the Darkest Dungeon, stay tuned to Red Hook Studios' official website for future blog posts, or follow the team's Twitter account to receive instant updates.
