College basketball program already immersed in scandal suspends yet another coach

And this somehow got worse.

Steve Barnes, who was serving as the interim head coach for Colorado State, has been suspended by the university. This is notable for several reasons. The biggest is that this is following the Larry Eustachy firing earlier this week.

In total, Barnes was the interim head coach for a week.

While no reason was given for the suspension, at least at the time of this writing, team sources told the Denver Post that players spoke up about their concerns playing for Barnes in a meeting with the athletic director a day earlier.

Furthermore, according to the Post's multiple team sources, Barnes has been a known enabler of Eustachy's behavior.

There's a silver lining in this otherwise gloomy cloud of scandal. School officials told the players about Barnes' suspension prior to the media getting the word out. Players were previously finding out about the school's dealings with Eustachy via the media.

Players had already boycotted a practice due to the university's handling of the situation. This is clearly a step in the right direction for Colorado State.

Colorado State head coach Larry Eustachy was under investigation for the second time in four years for behavioral issues. He was fired by the school earlier in the week after the investigation was over.
