No. 7 overall recruit Simi Shittu has made his commitment

WOW.

The recruiting journey for five-star 2018 basketball prospect Simi Shittu has been well-chronicled and that is the nature of the process when dealing with a consensus top ten recruit in the country. On Wednesday, though, the high school senior removed any future doubt from the equation in partnering with The Players' Tribune to announce his college plans.

His choice? Playing for Bryce Drew and the Vanderbilt Commodores.

It may seem crazy that the No. 7 overall prospect in the country would choose Vanderbilt but, in short, it is a new era under Drew's watch in Nashville. The 'Dores already have a pledge from five-star point guard Darius Garland (No. 10 overall according to 247Sports) but, in adding Shittu, the class rises to an entirely different level in prominence.

The 6'9, 220-pound power forward from Vermont Academy appears to be a ready-made contributor at the college level, especially when paired with a top-flight point guard option in Garland. It remains to be seen as to whether Vanderbilt can go toe-to-tie with Kentucky (and other top programs) on the floor but, with two legitimately elite prospects on the way, that picture looks quite a bit rosier for the Commodores than at any point for a long while.
