ACC coach leaving program to take new position with Notre Dame

This is an incredible hire by Notre Dame.

Terry Joseph, who was last the defensive backs coach for North Carolina, is reportedly joining the Notre Dame Fighting Irish as a safeties coach.

The Fighting Irish have been in need of safeties coach ever since Mike Elko left for the Texas A&M Aggies. Obviously, Brian Kelly is hoping Joseph can come in and help the program continue to stir the echoes.

Prior to coaching for the Tar Heels, Joseph was the defensive backs coach at Texas A&M. Before his time in College Station, the new Notre Dame staff member had stops at Nebraska, Tennessee, Louisiana Tech, LSU and Washington State.

Joseph's background is actually rather impressive. His secondary in both Lincoln and College Station did remarkably well, with pass efficiency defenses that ranked top five in the country.

This is a rather big get for the Fighting Irish. While Elko was the program's defensive coordinator, he also handled the team's defensive backs. By inserting Joseph, with his impressive background and purported strong recruiting ties in the south, it aids a Notre Dame program in not having a big drop in ability for that specific role.

Notre Dame actually faced Joseph's secondary in Chapel Hill last season. It was during Irish quarterback Ian Book's first start. The young gunslinger finished 17-of-31 for 146 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions.
