Vandegrift High School's gym turns into an airport runway during basketball season. The transformation can be attributed to five-star power forward Greg Brown.
Brown — an Austin, Texas native — reaches for the sky each time he takes the court.
Greg Brown Highlights
The 6-foot-9 prospect has capital "L" length and tremendous athleticism. He thrives the most in transition by using his length to soar down the court in as few strides as possible. When he reaches the paint, he'll finish the play with booming dunks. Brown's shown a great nose for the ball as a rebounder, especially on the offensive end. He'll crash the boards and regroup quickly for a finish or draw a foul.
The high school senior's jump shot adds versatility to his offensive game. He can stretch beyond the arc to keep defenses honest. On defense, he uses his length to disrupt shots around the rim and can guard across multiple positions.
Brown primarily relies on his athleticism to score. Once he develops more offensive creativity, he'll grow into a bigger problem than he already is. He reminds me of New Orleans Pelicans' forward Brandon Ingram and Toronto Raptors' forward Pascal Siakam. Both use their length to generate offense and rebound. Brown is probably faster and more explosive than Ingram and Siakam, though.
Greg Brown's College Basketball Recruiting
Currently, the Vandegrift star is the ninth-ranked recruit in the 2020 recruiting class according to 247Sports and ESPN. He's uncommitted on where he'll play college basketball and is considering Auburn, Kentucky, Memphis, Texas, Michigan, and North Carolina. He's taken an official visit to each school except North Carolina. 247's Crystal Ball predicts he'll stay in Austin to play for the Texas Longhorns under head coach Shaka Smart.
Brown's trajectory leads to the NBA. He's a projected lottery pick in the 2021 NBA Draft and could climb near the top as he fills out and adds more to his game.
As he prepares to make a college decision, Greg Brown is ready for takeoff.
