Boxing Champ's NASCAR Team Hopes To Run More in 2024

Floyd Mayweather is just one of the big names that seems to have become common in NASCAR as of late, and that will be no different in February as the team he co-owns will try to make its third Daytona 500.

The Money Team Racing No. 50 is back for another shot at making "The Great American Race." The team has made six NASCAR Cup starts, including the past two Daytona 500s. The first came in 2022 when Kaz Grala qualified in the team's inaugural attempt.

Conor Daly was tabbed last season, and he just slipped into the field for the 500, before also racing the car at Circuit of the Americas.

Nothing for 2024 is finalized according to a report from Forbes, but Mayweather's team has its eyes on attempting to make a third-consecutive start at Daytona, along with other possible races.

While the team hasn't had much success in its six starts, it still has been a breath of fresh air, and has given some drivers that haven't had a real Cup opportunity a shot to race in the sport's biggest event.

Becky and Willy Auchmoody head the day-to-day work of the team. The husband and wife have put a lot of work into their small race schedule, which in 2023 was supposed to be four races, but ultimately only saw the No. 50 on track for two races due to funding issues.

That is the name of the game in NASCAR, and the pair know that. The Aucmoody's describe the team as something from the good old days of racing.

"We're a mom-and-pop business at this point," Becky tells Forbes. "We don't have a huge facility. We have a handful of employees. It's very humbling because we've had so many people support us. To make the Daytona 500 not once, but twice, it's surreal."

A third time won't be easy, with so many other cars trying to get one of the four open spots that will be left on the grid with the charter teams guaranteed to start the race. And for what they have planned in the future, including a possible full-time run in 2025, hopefully, they land a strong driver.

Michael Jordan, Pitbull and Floyd Mayweather, that's quite a strong group of owners in NASCAR.
