To further build the WWE Raw vs. SmackDown vs. NXT feud for Survivor Series, Becky Lynch made an appearance that surprised the Full Sail audience.
After cutting a promo, former NXT UK Champion Rhea Ripley answered the challenge, and the two competed against each other, but the match was interrupted by Shayna Baszler, Marina Shafir, and Jessamyn Duke. The trio attacked both women, since Baszler will be competing against Ripley at NXT TakeOver and Lynch at Survivor Series.
Although Lynch is one member of the Four Horsewomen — along with Bayley, Charlotte Flair, and Sasha Banks — and based on their time in NXT, Lynch has experienced much more success on the main roster compared to her time competing for the black and yellow brand.
From NXT to current Raw Women's Champion, Becky Lynch is cementing herself in having one of the most successful years of any pro wrestler. Her bank account is starting to show it.
Humble Beginnings
Rebecca Quin was born on January 30, 1987 in Limerick, Ireland, but was raised in Dublin. As a 15-year-old kid, Becky was already involved in drinking and smoking — heading down the wrong path at a young age. However, her love for professional wrestling gave her a direction, and she joined a wrestling school. Interestingly, Finn Balor was also a member of this wrestling school, and Balor stated that Lynch might have lied about her age to join the training camp.
In 2004, Lynch made her pro wrestling debut, competing for the NWA Ireland promotion. After over a year of competing in Europe, Lynch — her ring name then was Rebecca Knox — moved to Canada a competed for the Extreme Canadian Championship Wrestling (ECCW) promotion. During this time, she also competed in the United States, for the Framingham, Massachusetts-based New England Championship Wrestling, as well as the Hayward, California-based All Pro Wrestling.
Lynch also continued to rack up hours by competing for the International Women's Grand Prix (IW*GP) promotion in Tokyo, Japan briefly in 2005. During this time, she competed against Natalya (Nattie Neidhart), who was also gaining experience as a professional wrestler by competing around the world.
By 2006, Lynch landed more opportunities in the United States, competing for SHIMMER and AWA Superstars of Wrestling. However, due to a head injury and an expired Visa, Lynch started to pursue other career endeavors — such as a flight attendant — and retired from in-ring action. Also, during her time away from wrestling, she earned a degree in acting at the Dublin Institute of Technology, and also studied at Columbia College Chicago.
Lynch Revives Her Pro Wrestling Dreams
From 2006 to 2013, Lynch barely kept her pro wrestling career alive, only competing in very few matches during this seven-year period. However, she was given an opportunity to compete in NXT, and was able to renew her Visa in order to move to the United States. Lynch was mostly on the losing end of matches, but her NXT career did begin to boost after turning on Bayley and siding with Sasha Banks. The partnership between Becky and Sasha dissolved after a few months. However, by this time, Lynch had continued to climb up the ladder as a top star for the NXT brand.
As a result of Stephanie McMahon's Women's Revolution initiative to transform female talent from "WWE divas" back to women's wrestlers, Lynch was moved up from NXT to the main roster, teaming with Paige and forming the Team P.C.B. faction along with Paige and Charlotte Flair. It did not take long for Becky to experience success following her main roster debut, as she and Charlotte defeated the Bella Twins in a tag team match, just her third match on Raw.
Charlotte would eventually leave the faction, but Sasha Banks would also turn babyface after leaving the Team B.A.D. faction. After an alliance with Banks, the Revolution started to concentrate less on factions and more on individual WWE superstars.
Lynch captured her first championship on the September 11, 2016 episode of Backlash, as she defeated Carmella, Alexa Bliss, Noami, Nikki Bella, Natalya in a Six Pack Challenge match to become the inaugural SmackDown Women's Champion. She retained the title for nearly three months. However, it took her nearly two years to climb back up the later, as she defeated Charlotte Flair at the Hell in a Cell PPV to win the title for the second time.
