Well this was awkward.
During Saturday afternoon's AAC Championship between UCF and Memphis, ESPN announcer Steve Levy brought up the reports that UCF head coach Scott Frost had already accepted the position at Nebraska. Levy correctly credited Brett McMurphy for the report, but inaccurately referred to McMurphy as "our own".
McMurphy was one of the most prominent members laid off by ESPN back in April, and McMurphy has since been freelancing while still being one of college football's top news breakers. As you can imagine, the comment made its way back to McMurphy, who didn't seem thrilled with it.
The comment also comes after ESPN has laid off another 150 employees in the past week. ESPN has been making heavy cuts over the past year as a cost-saving measure, and many both on-screen and behind-the-scenes have been affected.
