Deion Sanders Mentioned As Head Coaching Candidate for Top SEC Program

With Alabama Crimson Tide head coach Nick Saban retiring, everyone, from fans to sports talk show hosts, is giving their predictions on who will take over for the seven-time national champion head coach, and it was only a matter of time before Deion Sanders was mentioned.

On ESPN's "Get Up," Stephen A. Smith said he thinks Deion Sanders, also known as Coach Prime, should take over for Saban.

"Go ahead and be happy in Boulder, Colorado. God bless you... I was there twice in my life and the only reason for that was him," Smith said.

After Smith's comments, former Pittsburgh Steelers and LSU Tigers defensive back Ryan Clark had comments of his own.

"I do not care who's the next coach," Clark started. "Cuz he ain't gonna be the right coach cuz he aint' gonna be Nick Saban and that's why nobody wants to job," he continued saying, amongst other things.

In his first season as the head coach for the Colorado Buffaloes, Sanders started the season 3-0, defeating TCU, Nebraska, and Colorado State. It was a disastrous end from there, though, going 1-8, beating only Arizona State on the road.

His son and starting quarterback, Shedeur Sanders, was sacked approximately 50 times, leading the nation. He ended the year injured and didn't play in the final game.
Now, Smith thinks he should jump ship to Alabama.

However, fans on X don't have the same viewpoint.

"People acting like coach prime did this amazing job, when in fact, northwestern had a dumpster fire and they won 8 games. I like SAS, but can we have people who watch college football talk about college football," one user wrote.

"Perfect example of just because you can yell and scream, doesn't mean you have anything useful to say. One of the main reasons I stopped watching The Four Letter," someone else said.

Meanwhile, others are agreeing with Smith, but not exactly for the same reasons.

"God, yes, please. As a UGA fan nothing would delight me more," one user said, agreeing with Smith, but seemingly because they think Sanders would perform poorly enough that it would benefit Georgia.

Now, we wait to see who the Alabama Crimson Tide hire as their next head coach.
