Heat Trade 6-Time All-Star to Hornets for Terry Rozier

The NBA is halfway through the 2023-24 regular season and we have a massive trade—the Charlotte Hornets are sending Terry Rozier to the Miami Heat for a 2027 first-round pick and Kyle Lowry.

ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski broke the news on Tuesday morning.

To this point, the Heat is 24-19 and the No. 6 seed in the Eastern Conference, while the Hornets are 10-31 and the No. 13 seed, ahead of only the Washington Wizards and Detroit Pistons.

This season, Rozier is averaging 23.2 points, 3.9 rebounds, and 6.6 assists per game, to Lowry's 8.2 points, 3.5 rebounds, and four assists per game.

Rozier was traded to the Hornets on July 6, 2019 by the Boston Celtics. The Celtics sent Rozier and a 2020 second-round pick to the Hornets for Kemba Walker and a 2020 second-round pick.

Nearing 30 years old, Rozier signed a four-year, $96.25 million extension with the Hornets.

Lowry was traded by the Toronto Raptors to the Heat on August 6, 2021 for Precious Achiuwa, Goran Dragic, and a trade exception.

Fans on X voiced their opinion of the trade in droves.

"They're gonna be paying Rozier 26m when he's 31," one user said with two laughing face emojis.

"The Miami Heat make a significant upgrade at point guard in Terry Rozier while reducing their luxury tax payment by $15.2 million. They save a total of $21.7 million between their payroll and tax penalty. They also generate a $6.5 million trade exception," said Yossi Gozlan of Capsheets.com.

"Yep. I'm putting it on record. If Terry Rozier ends the Celtics season I'm absolutely, positively done with the sport," someone else said.

"Yes his game fits the Heat perfectly he will bring space, speed and shooting, good addition, Tyler Herro and Terry Rozier together it's at least 50 points per game," another user wrote.

The Heat add an excellent scorer to their lineup to help improve their standing in the Eastern Conference.
