Jeremy Pruitt will remain with the Alabama Crimson Tide as the team's defensive coordinator through the College Football Playoff, but that does not mean that he is not hard at work in building a staff for his new task as the head coach of the Tennessee Volunteers. Pruitt has already been quite active in pillaging other SEC programs for his assistants, as the former Georgia defensive coordinator has picked off Bulldogs outside linebackers coach Kevin Sherrer to go along with names like Tracy Rocker and Chris Rumph. Now, though, it appears that Pruitt is looking internally in Tuscaloosa.
Matt Zenitz of AL.com brings word that Alabama assistant director of personnel operations Brian Niedermeyer will be following Pruitt to Knoxville and, while he is obviously not a big name that would move the needle nationally, these kind of additions can be quite helpful. Niedermeyer has an interesting reported background as he served first as a graduate assistant at Alabama but, clearly, Pruitt sees something that he values in bringing him aboard in his venture as a head coach and that is worth noting to be sure.
Ultimately, Jeremy Pruitt will be judged on the on-field work of the Vols under his tutelage, but he certainly appears to be setting himself up with a quality staff to help him in that pursuit.
