By now, it's no secret. Matthew McConaughey loves Texas as much as a kid loves candy. That's why he is the Minister of Culture for the University of Texas Longhorns and exactly why he showed up to the Capitol in Austin on Wednesday.
Back in December, the Longview Lobos capped off a perfect 16-0 season by defeating the Beaumont West Brook Bruins, 35-34, for the Texas Class 6A Division II state championship at AT&T Stadium in Arlington. It was the school's first championship in 81 years and a celebration was certainly in order.
And what better way to celebrate than with McConaughey, a Longview High School graduate from 1988, at the Capitol with State Representative Jay Dean, Texas Lt. Governor Dan Patrick, and Texas Governor Greg Abbott?

Alright, alright, alright, how cool is that?
The 46-year-old Academy Award-winning actor and producer definitely looked like he enjoyed himself and even addressed the team on the floor of the Texas Senate.
Good luck finding more hometown pride than what McConaughey has for Longview, Texas and his alma mater Longview Lobos.
This isn't just a one-time thing, either, or some publicity stunt to celebrate the Lobos' state title for the first time since 1937. McConaughey was definitely a part of this season and gave a one-of-a-kind speech before Longview took on West Brook for the championship.
Needless to say, the Hollywood-like pump-up speech worked for head coach John King's football team.
Longview Lobos quarterback Haynes King threw for 423 yards with three total touchdowns (one rush) for Offensive Most Valuable Player honors, wide receiver Kamden Perry set a UIL 6A championship game record with 218 receiving yards, and Jephaniah Lister registered 12 tackles to earn Defensive MVP.
It was a game for the ages and a season that will be remembered forever. Having actor Matthew McConaughey help celebrate is just icing on the cake for a group of young men from East Texas who deserve a lot of credit and praise for their accomplishments.
