Patrick Mahomes Is the Fastest QB to Reach Historic Milestone

Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes made history on Sunday night against the New York Jets with yet another touchdown pass.

Everybody knows how good Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes is, with the sixth-year starter already notching two MVPs and two Super Bowl wins in his young career.

Mahomes added another record to his career on Sunday night against the New York Jets as he threw his 200th career passing touchdown, this one going to a Chiefs tight end that is not named Travis Kelce: Noah Gray. While the number is not overly impressive, Mahomes is still 49th all-time in passing touchdowns after throwing his 200th.

According to ESPN Stats & Info, Mahomes is the fastest quarterback to ever throw for 200 touchdowns, doing it in 84 career games.

Mahomes broke Dan Marino's record of 89 games for fastest quarterback to 200 passing touchdowns. Mahomes becomes just the third quarterback to pass for 200 touchdowns in less than 100 games, with Aaron Rodgers being the third at 99 games.

The Chiefs superstar is not only the fastest quarterback to throw for 200 touchdowns, but also the fastest quarterback to throw for over 25,000 yards in his career. Mahomes had 25,000 yards in 84 career games and was also the fastest quarterback to reach that milestone. As if Mahomes has not already broken enough NFL records this early in his career, he also holds the highest passer rating in NFL history: 105.6, passing Aaron Rodgers's record of 103.6.

The impressive thing about Mahomes securing the record is that it comes after he started just one game during his rookie season. In the regular season finale against the Denver Broncos, after the Chiefs had already locked up their playoff spot and seeding, a rookie Mahomes was named the starter for the game so the Chiefs could rest their starters, including Alex Smith, for the playoffs. Mahomes did not throw a touchdown in that game, although he did pass for 284 yards in the Chiefs 27-24 win. The Chiefs would then trade away Alex Smith after the playoffs that year, signaling Mahomes as the full-time starter heading into the 2018 season.
