No. 1 punter Skyler Delong decommits from Tennessee, flips to another powerhouse

He was only committed for two weeks.

Punters are not usually the focus of high-end recruiting battles but, even for the best of the best in college football, the position is quite valuable. That has led to quite a bit of attention on the No. 1 punting prospect in the country, Skyler Delong, and just where he will end up for the 2018 season and beyond. First, Delong announced that he was committing to play for Butch Jones and the Tennessee Volunteers but, as of Thursday, that appears to be changing.

Hank South of BamaOnline brings word that Nick Saban and the Alabama Crimson Tide have flipped Delong's commitment and he is set to play in Tuscaloosa.

At the moment, Delong is the No. 1 punter in the 247Sports composite rankings. He is rated as a five-star punter by the Kohl's Kicking rankings.

There is, of course, nothing surprising about the best player at a position choosing Alabama in the end, with Saban's staff doing a phenomenal recruiting job on an annual basis. Still, this is a blow for Tennessee and a situation in which they are losing a top-flight player to a big-time rival.

Skyler Delong's recruitment will never get the attention of some other positions but, in the end, he'll be an important weapon at Alabama.
