It's not often that Wichita State coach Gregg Marshall is in the headlines for something negative, but that's definitely the case after an exhibition game in Canada. He took his guys to McGill —- often described as the "Harvard of Canada" —- where the Shockers almost got shocked into a loss.
With Marshall's irritation mounting from quarter to quarter —- Canada doesn't play halves —- with not only his team's poor play, but the poor officiating, he decided to take a stand. After what he deemed a bad foul call on one of his players in the third quarter, Marshall absolutely lost his mind and was going after the refs as he got ejected from the game. You might know the name Earl Weaver as he's the famous baseball manager who get ejected from games in and creative ways. Well, Marshall figured if he was going to get his second technical and get ejected he might as well play it up and get his money's worth.
"I'm definitely not proud of my reaction to that situation, but at some point your players have to know you're going to stand up for them and you've got some fight in you," he said. "Once I reacted, I said 'I might as well get my money's worth.'"
At the time of Marshall's reaction, the Shockers were down two buckets and ended up winning the game 77-71 thanks to a rally in the fourth quarter and the coach firing his team up.
