Chipper Jones, whose full name is Larry Wayne "Chipper" Jones Jr., grew up in DeLand, Florida, to parents Larry Wayne Jones, Sr. and Lynne Jones. He attended Taylor High School in Pierson, Florida, before transferring to the Bolles School in Jacksonville, playing baseball at both stops.
Rather than continue his baseball career in college, Jones turned pro out of high school after being drafted by the Atlanta Braves with the first-overall pick in the 1990 MLB Draft. He was sent to Atlanta's minor leagues, where the switch hitter switched from shortstop to third base after advice from the organization.

Chipper Jones made his MLB debut in 1993 against the San Diego Padres. Jones was just 21 when he earned his first trip to The Show, making him the youngest player in the league at that time.
His first full season came in 1995, during which he placed second in National League Rookie of the Year Voting. Jones made five All-Star Games throughout his next six seasons and was named National League MVP in 1999 after hitting 45 home runs, 110 RBIs and 25 stolen bases.
