Patrick Bertoletti was the winner of the 2024 annual Nathan's Hot Dog Eating Contest, as he ate 58 franks and buns in 10 minutes on the fourth of July. Notably, Bertoletti was a heavy underdog coming into today as he had +900 odds to win (8.5%), so the 39-year-old was somewhat of a surprise winner of the $10,000 prize money.
Bertoletti was the No. 9 ranked competitive eater in the world before the competition, and this is notably his first title in nine appearances, beating second-place Geoffrey Esper (53) and third-place James Webb (52).

Also, to point out in regards to the women's competition, Miki Sudo broke the record as she ate 51 hot dogs and buns to secure her 10th title. while Mayoi Ebihara came in second place (37).
"We finally beat 50, guys," Sudo said after her record-setting performance. "I'll see you next year."
For those health nuts curious about the calorie intake from Nathan's hot dogs, looking at the nutrition facts, one beef frank contains 170 calories and the buns contains around 130 calories. So that means when viewing this year's winner, the Chicago native, Bertoletti, consumed 17,400 calories.
The field of players for this year's contest all took a sigh of relief, when it was announced that the 16x winner Joey Chestnut, who won the tournament from 2016-2023, would not be a contestant in 2024. That is to say, Chestnut is the all-time record holder, as he ate 76 hot dogs in 2021.

The reason for Chestnut not competing for his 17th Nathan's Hot Dog title is because of him accepting a deal with a rival brand, Impossible Foods, which is known for its vegan options.
"Joey was not banned. Joey chose not to compete in the contest the moment he chose to make an endorsement deal with one of Nathan's competitors," said a rep from Major League Eating, who holds the event every year.

I'm stoked to be going to Ft. Bliss, where I'll be eating against four of their finest soldiers.

Instead of participating at Nathan's, Joey Chestnut will be going down to the Fort Bliss army base in El Paso, Texas, to have his own eating contest with soldiers on the fourth of July, which will be broadcasted at 5:00 pm ET (youtube).
This competition will include a five-minute time frame (instead of 10 minutes), and Chestnut will be going up against four servicemen, who will take their combined results to see if they can eat more than the world's No. 1 ranked eater.
