Buffalo Bills head coach Rex Ryan knew his time with the New York Jets was coming to a close before the 2014 season even began. The warning signs came that offseason, he said, when the team failed to sign any big name free agents outside of Erick Decker.
“I knew we weren’t going to have a good team when we never did anything in free agency,” Ryan told Andrea Kramer. “Oh I was done. One-hundred percent, I knew I was done. One-hundred percent.”
Ryan said he pressured management to go after DeSean Jackson and Darrelle Revis, but his pleas fell on deaf ears and then-general manager John Idzik refused.
Ryan and Idzik were fired in late December and Ryan was hired to coach the Bills in January.
