The Boston Celtics will do anything it can to get back into the top tier of the NBA, and that includes targeting some of the best free agents.

With Portland Trail Blazers big man LaMarcus Aldridge at the top of the list, the Celtics are reportedly ready to go heavy at the forward.

From Masslive:

During an episode of Celtics Talk TV, A. Sherrod Blakely said, “My understanding is the Celtics are going to be open to putting together some type of package deal where they would not only bring in LaMarcus Aldridge, they’d bring in one of his good friends by the name of Wes Matthews.”

Asked about (the likelihood of landing) Aldridge, the reporter said, “I’m going to go high with this one. I think there’s a 35-40 percent chance that he’s going to come here.”

It would be unwise for Boston to not make a run at Aldridge, but the likelihood he passes up similar offers from the San Antonio Spurs or the Dallas Mavericks is unlikely — even if the Celtics swing a deal for Wes Matthews or any of Aldridge’s friends.
