Larry Legend is one of the greatest players in Boston Celtics history, and as we celebrate his 58th birthday, let’s take a look back at one of the best plays ever.
In Game 5 of the 1987 Finals with the Celtics down one to the Detroit Pistons, Bird takes the ball baseline and gets blocked at the rim before it careens out of bounds off a Boston teammate.
With just five ticks left, Bird steals the inbounds pass from the Detroit’s Isiah Thomas, then finds a streaking Dennis Johnson for the game-winner.
The Celtics would overcome the Pistons in seven games before falling to the Los Angeles Lakers in the Finals in six.
