Before re-signing Chuck Pagano, negotiations reportedly broke down between Colts and this big-name head coach

Chuck Pagano wasn't the Colts' first choice, per reports.

One of the certain NFL firings heading into 'Black Monday,' Chuck Pagano ended up with a new four-year contract with the Indianapolis Colts in a shocker.

Before he kept the job, the Colts were reportedly in talks to acquire New Orleans Saints head coach Sean Payton, but negotiations fell through:

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport denied the claim that the Colts were in talks to acquire Payton:

According to Pro Football Talk, the Colts did not reach out to Alabama head coach Nick Saban after prior reports noted they would.

Pagano has taken the Colts to 11-5 records over three of the past four years. He dropped to 8-8 this year after completing the injury-plagued season where Andrew Luck pushed through a variety of injuries in seven games he appeared in.
