Bill Belichick's Mother, Jeannette, Passed Away at 98

Jeannette Belichick lived a full life. She watched her son, New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick, win six Super Bowl championships. She watched two of her grandchildren, Stephen Belichick and Brian Belichick join Bill's staff on the sidelines in Foxborough, Massachusetts.

Sadly, Bill Belichick's mother passed away on Monday of natural causes in Annapolis, Maryland, according to ESPN. She was 98.

"Great, very loving, caring - always made you feel like you're the most important person in the world to her," Brian Belichick told the Providence Journal after his grandmother's passing.

"She had a great influence on me - an influence in me on how to treat other people, how to bring great energy every day, be positive."

Steve Belichick added: "She lives an amazing life. I spent a lot of time with her - Christmas, Nantucket in the summers. She taught me a lot - just in terms of helping other people and putting everybody ahead of yourself. She always did that. She's the nicest, sweetest lady and I'm really going to miss her."

The mother of the NFL legendary coach met her husband, Steve Belichick, at Hiram College back in the 1940s. Jeanette was teaching as a foreign language professor while Steve served as an athletic coach at the Hiram, Ohio school. According to the Boston Herald, she knew seven languages, including Spanish and French.

Jeanette and Steve tied the knot in 1950 and gave birth to their only only child, Bill, in 1952. They raised him in Annapolis, Maryland, where Steve worked as an assistant football coach for the United States Naval Academy.

Steve Belichick Passed Away in 2005

Bill Belichick's father, Steve, died in 2005 at 85 years old. Bill's father survived the Great Depression growing up in Pennsylvania and, after a brief stint playing in the NFL, joined the Navy after Pearl Harbor. He then coached football at Hiram, Vanderbilt and North Carolina, per Boston.com.

Bill Belichick made a donation to Hiram College in 2015 and the school named its Olympic training center in his father's honor.

Additionally, the Jeannette Munn Belichick '42 Endowed Fund named in his mother's honor has supported the school library at Hiram by buying books related to foreign languages, according to ESPN. The first floor of the library, designated as the reading room, is named in Jeannette's honor.

Bill Belichick had three children of his own with his ex-wife Debby Clarke Belichick. Steve is New England's outside linebackers coach and Brian serves as the Patriots' safeties coach. Bill's daughter, Amanda Belichick, is the head coach of Holy Cross's women's lacrosse team.

Bill is preparing for Week 2 of his 21st season — one that's been changed given COVID-19 and the coronavirus pandemic — with the Patriots. After losing Tom Brady to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, it'll be up to he and quarterback Cam Newton to keep New England a dominant force despite playoff-caliber teams like the Kansas City Chiefs, Dallas Cowboys, Los Angeles Rams and Pittsburgh Steelers.

Baltimore Ravens head coach John Harbaugh and Seattle Seahawks coach Pete Carroll both extended their condolences to the Belichick family on Wednesday. The Patriots play the Seahawks on Sunday Night Football.

"Before I go, I just want to say I'm sorry to hear about coach Bill's mother passing," Carroll told the Boston Herald. "I know she lived a long life, but I want to pass along our condolences."
