The draft has come and gone and one of the best prospects in this year’s class went undrafted after he was supposed to be a top 15 pick. Now, teams are starting to line up in order to sign one of the most coveted undrafted free agents.
Two teams have either met with or scheduled meetings with former LSU offensive lineman La’el Collins. He met with Buffalo Bills head coach Rex Ryan and has a meeting scheduled with the Miami Dolphins. The Dallas Cowboys are also interested in Collins.
Collins was wanted for questioning in a murder investigation days before the draft started. Police have said he is not a suspect, but teams wary of that possibility decided to pass on him. Collins met with police on Monday, and fully cooperated with investigators, according to reports.
When reports surfaced that he was wanted for questioning, many teams completely took Collins off of their draft boards, which caused his agent to try to remove him from the draft. The NFL denied his request.
If he had nothing to do with the murder, then I hope Collins can find a team that fits him well. That is the best part of being an undrafted free agent. He can choose to sign with any team, and he may just be the most sought-after undrafted free agent in the league’s history.
