Joseph Randle didn’t get much play in Sunday’s 26-20 loss the New Orleans Saints after he held the ball out with one hand while attempting to jump over the pile in front of the goal line, a move coaches warned against doing.

Randle’s carelessness with the ball played a role in his limited role in the second half, Cowboys head coach Jason Garrett said during his Monday press conference, via the Dallas Morning News.

Cowboys owner Jerry Jones’ response during a radio interview on Tuesday contradicted that of his head coach.

No, we didn’t bench him,” Jones said on 105.3 The Fan’s Shan and RJ show [KRLD-FM], via DMN. “We did not bench him. We just wanted [Darren] McFadden in there at that time. Seriously, it was not a bench.”

It has not been confirmed whether Randle will start in Week 5 game against New England but with leading RB Lance Dunbar out with a torn ACL, it seems unlikely Randle won’t play a significant role in Sunday’s matchup.
