Dak Prescott Carted Off Field With Gruesome Ankle Injury

Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott is a true warrior. Say whatever you want about his team's record or lack of playoff success over the years, but nobody can deny his heart or toughness. The Pro Bowl signal caller had never missed a single game in his young NFL career, but unfortunately that streak will come to an end due to a gruesome ankle injury.

With 6 minutes, 39 seconds remaining in the third quarter on Sunday afternoon, AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas went quiet. It didn't take long to figure out why. After scrambling for a run to get inside the red zone against the New York Giants, Prescott was tackled by defensive back Logan Ryan and, well, his right leg went the wrong way.

Prescott was carted off the field. CBS reported it was a right ankle injury and was transported to a local hospital for evaluation. ESPN's Adam Schefter reported the star quarterback would undergo ankle surgery Sunday night after suffering a right ankle compound fracture and dislocation.

Up until that point, Prescott was looking to help the Cowboys snap a two-game losing streak. He completed 14 of 21 passes for 166 yards with an interception. He added two carries for seven yards and even caught a trick play pass for a touchdown late in the second quarter on CBS.

Just when it looked like the Dallas Cowboys were going to seize control in Sunday's game, however, Prescott's leg injury was suddenly the primary focus.

Prescott's leg was put in an air cast. He was very emotional riding off the field to the locker room, holding his fist up as fans gave him a standing ovation.

Tad Prescott, Dak's brother, shared a pic with the injured star from the hospital.

Prescott, who signed a franchise tag with the Cowboys this offseason, was replaced by veteran quarterback Andy Dalton. Running back Ezekiel Elliott capped off the drive with a 12-yard touchdown.

The Cowboys won the NFC East game, 37-34. Kicker Greg Zuerlein made a 34-yard field goal as time expired.

Without Prescott, head coach Mike McCarthy and offensive coordinator Kellen Moore will have to come up with a new plan to get Elliott more touches and wide receivers Amari Cooper, CeeDee Lamb and Michael Gallup the ball.

So much happened around the NFL in Week 5. The Titans and Patriots were still dealing with a COVID-19 outbreak, Tom Brady and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers fell to the Chicago Bears on Thursday night, Alex Smith returned, and teams such as the Texans, Dolphins, Panthers, Raiders, Cardinals, Steelers, Rams, Ravens, and Browns all got victories.

The big news of the day, however, was Dak Prescott's injury, and everyone is wishing him a speedy recovery.

This story will be updated as news about Prescott comes in.
