Cowboys' Ezekiel Elliott reportedly preparing for suspension from NFL

Elliott rushed for over 1,600 yards in his rookie year.

Ezekiel Elliott is on the (very) short list of best running backs in the NFL today but the soon-to-be professional sophomore might be in trouble when it comes to missing games. This week, ESPN's Adam Schefter indicated on SportsCenter that Elliott could be facing a suspension as a result of the league's investigation into accusations of domestic violence against the former Ohio State star.

"I think that there's a growing sense that he could face some sort of short suspension here in the coming weeks at some point once the NFL wraps up its investigation. It is not over yet, but it is definitely far along into the process. Zeke Elliott still has to respond to the NFL's recent findings. The NFL has given him some report and at some point here in the coming weeks, Zeke Elliott will respond to the NFL's report that is sent to him."

"But I think that Zeke Elliott is bracing for a short suspension here in the coming weeks and we'll see how that impacts the season."

It is, in some ways, bizarre that the NFL has taken so long to rule on this case, especially since it dates back to 2016. Still, the reporting from Schefter is clear in that Elliott is anything but out of the woods with regard to potential league discipline and it seems as if he knows it.

Just how long the suspension will be and what the league will publicly announce remains to be seen. Stay tuned.
