Legendary NFL quarterback Drew Brees decided to hang up the cleats after an iconic career in the pros.

The 42-year-old will go down as one of the greatest NFL players of all time, having dominated in the league for two decades as a member of the San Diego Chargers and New Orleans Saints.

Drew Christopher Brees was born in Dallas, Texas, and attended Westlake High School in Austin.

Despite being an outstanding high school quarterback, Brees wasn't heavily recruited by college football programs, which led him to Purdue.

With the Boilermakers, Brees was a three-year starter and threw 90 touchdown passes to 45 interceptions. He was named the Big Ten Offensive Player of the Year in 1998 and 2000, and was also the Maxwell Award winner in 2000.

Brees was drafted in the second round of the 2001 NFL Draft by the San Diego Chargers.

Throughout his five-year tenure with the Bolts, Brees made one Pro Bowl and was named the NFL's Comeback Player of the Year after a bounce-back season in 2004.

He spent his next 15 years in the NFL as the New Orleans Saints quarterback, where he won Super Bowl XLIV against the Indianapolis Colts and was named Super Bowl MVP.

Throughout his Saints' career, Brees threw over 8,000 passing yards, 491 touchdowns and 190 interceptions. He made 12 Pro Bowls with the franchise and one First Team All-Pro.

Brees won nine playoff games throughout his career, including his lone Super Bowl win.

Brees retired after the 2020 NFL season with the most passing yards in NFL history, coming in ahead of fellow legends such as Brett Favre, Peyton Manning, Eli Manning, Aaron Rodgers, and many more.

Additionally, Brees is second to Tom Brady in all-time passing touchdowns.

His final contract was a two-year, $50 million deal with the Saints that saw him pocket a signing bonus worth $23 million.
