NFL legend compares Dak Prescott to Hall of Famer: “He’s the real deal”

This is high praise.

Dak Prescott was one of the best rookies in the NFL last season, so much so that he won the NFL offensive rookie of the year award. Could he be on his way to a Hall of Fame career, though?

For what it's worth, Eric Dickerson, who knows a thing or two about Hall of Fame careers , thinks that it's certainly possible because the young quarterback reminds him of another Hall of Famer in Warren Moon.

Recently speaking on FSI's Speak For Yourself, Dickerson said that he was impressed with Prescott from the first time he saw him play.

"I saw Dak play in the preseason when they played the Rams the first preseason game. And I was impressed in that game. I said 'Who is this kid?' He reminded me so much of Warren Moon then," Dickerson told the panel on a recent episode of FS1's Speak For Yourself. "So, when Tony Romo got hurt...by the third week I said 'He the real deal.' I just felt he was the real deal. I think he can handle the pressure."

Prescott, who the Cowboys drafted in the fourth round of the 2016 NFL Draft out of Mississippi State, certainly lived up to the pressure of being Dallas' starting quarterback — and more.

At one point, it looked like a potentially awesome season was ruined when Romo went down with a preseason back injury, meaning Dallas would have to start the season with a rookie under center. Prescott, who didn't necessarily have high expectations entering the NFL, took over for Romo and didn't miss a beat. Sure, the Cowboys relied on Ezekiel Elliott in the backfield and both rookies really benefited from a great offensive line, but Prescott's leadership and poise were undeniable.

He started all 16 regular season games for Dallas, leading the Cowboys to an NFC-best 13-3 record and a top seed in the playoffs. He threw 23 touchdowns and 3,667 yards compared to just four interceptions. He also notched six touchdowns on the ground thanks to his dual-threat ability.

The Cowboys were ousted by the Green Bay Packers in truly miraculous fashion thanks to a huge play by Aaron Rodgers and a last-second field goal.

Looking ahead though, it makes sense that Dickerson, who made his biggest impact in the NFL with the Los Angeles Rams and the Indianapolis Colts, sees some of Moon in Prescott.

Moon was a CFL star before joining the Houston Oilers in 1984. In 17 prolific NFL seasons (most with the Oilers, but he also played for Minnesota Vikings, Seattle Seahawks, and Kansas City Chiefs) he threw for 49,325 total yards and 291 touchdowns. Moon, much like Prescott, could also make an impact with his feet — rushing for 22 touchdowns over those 17 NFL seasons.

During his NFL tenure, and especially while in Houston, Moon was considered one of the best offensive players in football. He was a nine-time Pro Bowler and an undisputed Hall of Famer.

Will we say the same thing about Prescott one day? At least according to Dickerson, we may.
