Jameis Winston’s contract prohibits him from playing baseball

Jameis Winston wasted no time signing his rookie contract with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The deal is worth $23.35 million over four years, and includes a $16.7 million signing bonus. Besides the actual money, there is one interesting part in his contract.

According to Peter King of Sports Illustrated, the Bucs included a clause that disallows Winston to play professional baseball throughout the life of his contact. Winston had expressed his love for baseball back in a February interview with King. He didn’t shoot down the possibility of playing baseball, but his contract won’t allow him to play both sports. Seattle Seahawks QB Russell Wilson has also said that he would like to play both sports. I’m sure when he gets a new deal that a clause similar to Winston’s will be included.

It’s almost impossible for a quarterback to play both sports. It’s not like other positions on the field. Being a NFL quarterback is a year-round job. There’s no way you can succeed if you’re playing baseball in the summer.
