Chiefs starter struggles as Mizzou product makes a case for the gig

Alex Smith has been pretty average as quarterback of the Kansas City Chiefs over the last year or so. While head coach Andy Reid hasn’t pointed toward a quarterback competition, Chase Daniel has made it clear he’s ready to at least test for the starting gig.

Smith shifted from his game-manager self to tossing interceptions in each of the last two weeks.

This one is painfully obvious, as Smith stares down his receiver, then throws what can only be explained as a terrible interception:

Daniel, on the other hand, completed 22 passes for 254 yards in another stout showing. He could be another Matt Flynn, showing up in mostly garbage time and the occasional injury-start, or he could develop into something special.

If he doesn’t have an opportunity in Kansas City, he’ll likely get his shot once he hits free agency.
