NFL’s next round of player, owner meetings will reportedly include the ousted Colin Kaepernick

Oh?

Former San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick is currently suing the NFL for colluding to keep him out of the league for social and/or political reasons, which makes it awkward to hear that he's been invited to the next meeting between the owners and players.

These are the very same owners he's suing mind you, but that's not stopping players from inviting Kaepernick, and that's reportedly not stopping him from attending the meeting either.

This according to Charles Robinson on Twitter:

Kaepernick is, of course, the genesis of the taking a knee protest that has swept across the NFL. It started as a peaceful protest of Kaepernick's in response to his thoughts on police brutality and the unfair treatment of minorities across America. The protest was his and his alone for a long time, but it spread across the NFL when President Donald Trump suggested that NFL players fire any "son of a bitch" who dare decided to peacefully protest against the national anthem.

Kaepernick hasn't seen an NFL field since he decided to opt out of his contract with the 49ers, and that's the big sticking point in his suit against the NFL. There would be significant backlash to an NFL team signing him, though it's worth noting that he'd also receive significant fan support as well.Kaepernick is surmising that the league has decided to reject him, despite his credentials as a quarterback and the fact that at the very least, he would be an interesting option as a backup quarterback for a handful of teams.

NFL owners may have stayed away from Kaepernick but the above report seems to be a huge statement by the NFL players. It seems like they have his back, even if the higher-ups in the league won't
