It appears that the Oakland Raiders have finally thrown a contract at Jon Gruden that ESPN won't be able to match.
Despite rumors over the years that Gruden would return to coaching, the former coach has stayed put at ESPN as one of the company's highest-paid on-air personalities. That said, Gruden is expected to be come the next head coach of the Raiders, and it looks like it will be thanks to a $100,000,000 million contract.
Yes. One hundred million dollars.
The deal is also spread over 10-years, which itself is a record deal for a head coach. Gruden is expected to be introduced as the next Raiders head coach next week.
Gruden, 54, hasn't coached in the NFL since the 2008 season. Gruden has a career record of 95-81, and he helped lead the 2002 Tampa Bay Buccaneers to a Super Bowl win. Gruden was also the head coach of the Raiders from 1998-2001 before jumping to Tampa Bay.
Gruden has been with ESPN since 2009, mostly working as part of the Monday Night Football broadcast.
