At the quarter-pole of the 2018 NFL season, we had cringe-worthy injuries, a bird on the field, and even a little FitzMagic. However, the biggest story of the NFL since that point was Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes.
At just 23 years old, Mahomes joined Peyton Manning as the only quarterbacks in NFL history to eclipse 5,000 passing yards and 50 touchdown passes that year. Mahomes was named NFL MVP, and the following season he guided Kansas City to Super Bowl LIV in a showdown against Jimmy Garoppolo and the San Francisco 49ers. Mahomes is a walking highlight-reel, but one wild moment from his MVP season didn't even happen during the game.
Prior to a Monday Night Football game against the Denver Broncos, Mahomes made a jaw-dropping throw that only added to his legend.
Before he threw for 304 yards and added two touchdowns — one passing and one rushing — and led a fourth-quarter rally to beat the Broncos, 27-23, Mahomes' warm up in Mile High Stadium featured an unbelievable throw you have to see to believe.
When Mahomes let this thing go, it took off into the Denver sky and looked like something straight out of a video game that couldn't possibly happen in real life. Then again, this is Patrick Mahomes.

Don't blame the mile-high altitudes of Denver, Colorado. Don't try to convince yourself this ball didn't just fly from one goal line to the opposite end zone. Mahomes can let it fly, and he's been doing it since he was a kid.
The Tyler, Texas, native grew up around sports. His father, Pat Mahomes, pitched for six MLB teams between 1992 and 2003. From an early age, young Patrick learned how to throw a missile. Drafted in the 37th round of the MLB Draft by the Detroit Tigers out of high school, Mahomes chose to pursue football and attended Texas Tech University where he threw for 11,252 yards and 93 touchdowns in only two full seasons as the Red Raiders' starter.
In 2016, Mahomes tied the NCAA record for most passing yards (734) in a single game and set the record for total offense by one player (819) in a legendary shootout against Oklahoma's Baker Mayfield.
Selected No. 10 overall in the 2017 NFL Draft, Mahomes sat for a season behind the departed Alex Smith before taking the NFL by storm in 2018.
Garnering the nickname "Showtime" Mahomes, the Chiefs quarterback racked up over 9,000 passing yards and 76 touchdowns through his first 31 regular season games. He's already set NFL records as the fastest player to reach numerous yardage and TD marks, with plenty more sure to fall before his time is done.
Time will tell just how good Mahomes can really be, but if he keeps flicking 90-yard throws, no-look passes and winning playoff games, the sky might not even be his limit.
