The Houston Texans are not in a good spot right now.
Starting quarterback and top overall pick Deshaun Watson is out for the season with an injury. Backup quarterback turned starter Tom Savage isn't getting the job done, and the Texans are on a three-game losing streak as a result.
Now 3-6 and watching their playoff hopes fade away, the Texans need to make some kind of move in order to remain in contention this season. Of course, their current players could always step up and play better, but perhaps it's time to start looking at another quarterback.
Colin Kaepernick is a name that's been floated out there, but another dual-threat quarterback out of work has apparently put his name in the hat — at least proverbially.
That quarterback is none other than Robert Griffin III, former Heisman Trophy winner and No. 2 overall pick (Washington Redskins, 2012).
Here's what he had to say, according to John McClain of the Houston Chronicle:
"Deshaun's an incredible player with a really bright future," Griffin said this week. "I feel like I could help him after my experiences with Washington and Cleveland.
"I feel like I could help the team. I know a lot of their guys. I think I can do a lot of things they've been doing offensively. Texas is home, and I've always got a soft spot in my heart for Texas."
Griffin III is a notable name especially because of his Texas ties. Remember, he played at Baylor from 2018-2011, racking up well over 3,446 yards and 111 touchdowns while winning the Heisman in 2011.
With that said, RGIII certainly never panned out as a professional quarterback. He was taken high by the Redskins and had extremely high expectations as a result, but he was let go by the team that took him No. 2 overall just three seasons later. He then went to the Cleveland Browns for a year, but only played in five games for the quarterback-needy organization.
He was a great college quarterback, but RGIII never proved himself as a professional. So can he be the answer for Houston?
The answer to that question is likely not.
