Steelers QB Russell Wilson Says He's 'Revived In Every Way' With New Team

A lot of people will tell you Russell Wilson is past his prime, though he did a fairly decent job last season with the Denver Broncos. Then again, the Broncos decided to cut him and eat the remainder of his massive salary.

So they are paying him to play for someone else. That is what the Broncos thought of Wilson's performance.

Anyway, he's the main man taking snaps for the Pittsburgh Steelers now (at a major discount for Pittsburgh), and he said he's feeling great.

"Man, I feel the fountain of youth," Wilson, 35, told reporters after his first day of minicamp, via Brooke Pryor of ESPN. "I feel revived in every way, mentally, emotionally, spiritually. I feel confident. I think at some point you have to know who you are as a player, as a man, as a competitor. As somebody who's been fortunate to be able to play this game, I don't doubt it. I trust it. I felt really good last year playing. I felt really confident in the midst of everything. And so I think right now I have all that confidence times 10."

Wilson was benched and released by the Broncos, who still owed him $85 million. He will now play for widely respected coach Mike Tomlin, who just received a contract extension, and under new offensive coordinator Arthur Smith. Interestingly, the Steelers also landed Justin Fields, the No. 11 overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft who is still just 25 years old.

But it is Wilson's job to lose.

"Russ is in the pole position," Smith told reporters. "It's a competition. Obviously, we get to Latrobe, I'm sure things will heat up, but both those guys knew that, however they were acquired, and they got here and I think it's been pretty transparent."
