If the New Orleans Saints end up parting ways with head coach Sean Payton this offseason, as is being speculated, he won't have to wait long for his next gig.
According to NFL Insider Ian Rapoport, Payton and the Los Angeles Rams share a mutual interest. But any movement would first require the attention of the five-year, $45 million contract extension he signed back in March.
Payton is still owed $40 million by the Saints, which could actually work in favor of a deal being made to get him out of New Orleans. That's an enormous chunk of change for a guy whose best work in 10 seasons at the helm—-a 2009 Super Bow victory and five playoff appearances (2013 being the Saints last postseason game)—-continues fading farther and farther into the rear view.

The organization is also reportedly at odds with Payton's open courting of other employment. As recently as last year, he was connected with the 49ers, Rams, Colts and Chargers.
