Signs point toward a surprising turn of events for Cowboys running back situation

According to Clarence Hill of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, running back Darren McFadden will most likely start for the Dallas Cowboys in their regular season opener against the Giants in place of DeMarco Murray.

This is somewhat surprising since the former Oakland Raider is listed third on the Cowboys’ depth chart and after signs pointed toward Joseph Randle getting the starting nod for Sunday. Hill also noted that the Cowboys don’t have a pitch count for McFadden, but it seems unlikely that they would ride him the whole game. Surely both Randle and Lance Dunbar will get plenty of work.

In his seven seasons in Oakland, McFadden accumulated 4,247 rushing yards and 25 touchdowns.
