What Happened to Warren Sapp and Where is He Now?

Former defensive tackle Warren Sapp was one of the fiercest defensive linemen in NFL history. The Pro Foootball Hall of Fame defenseman played 13 seasons at the highest level, which resulted in seven Pro Bowls, four First-Team All-Pro selections, and a Super Bowl victory with Tampa Bay.

Sapp retired from his career as a football player after the 2007 season, so what is he up to now?

Hall of Famer Warren Sapp was born in Orlando, Florida, and attended Apopka High School. He earned a scholarship to play college football for the University of Miami, where he excelled as a member of the Hurricanes, becoming a rare defender to be in the top six of Heisman Trophy voting during the 1994 season.

After college, Sapp entered the 1995 NFL Draft. He was selected in the first round (with the 12th-overall pick) by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and started his career under head coach Sam Wyche.

Sapp spent nine years in the NFC South, battling against the likes of the Saints, Panthers and Falcons, while proving his worth as one of the game's best defenders.

Sapp made his first Pro Bowl in 1997 after recording 10.5 sacks and three forced fumbles in his third season in the league. The Bucs made the playoffs, but were defeated by the Green Bay Packers in the NFC Divisional Round.

The Bucs were back in the postseason in 1999, but were taken down by the St. Louis Rams in the NFC Championship Game. That season, Sapp was named NFL Defensive Player of the Year after he recorded 12.5 sacks and forced four fumbles.

The Bucs were one-and-done in the playoffs in 2000 and 2001, losing out to the Philadelphia Eagles in both seasons.

Finally in 2002, however, Sapp and the Buccaneers managed to achieve their ultimate goal, winning Super Bowl XXXVII against the Oakland Raiders.

Sapp would spend one more season in Tampa before joining the Raiders in the 2004 offseason, where he'd play the final four seasons of his NFL career.

When he retired after the 2007 campaign, Sapp had recorded 96.5 sacks, 578 tackles, four interceptions, 19 forced fumbles and zero touchdowns.

His jersey is one of just three numbers retired by the Buccaneers franchise, alongside legendary linebacker Derrick Brooks and defensive lineman Lee Roy Selmon.

Sapp was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2013.

Warren Sapp Now

After the curtain closed on his professional career, the former NFL star began his second career as an analyst for the NFL Network. He started in 2008, but his contract was terminated by the network in 2015 after an arrest for solicitation of a prostitute in Phoenix, Arizona, according to TMZ.

Per ESPN, Sapp filed for bankruptcy in 2012, despite having made nearly $59 million in career earnings. Despite his financial struggles, Sapp is still on his feet, though Celebrity Net Worth lists the former Pro Bowler as having a net worth of $500,000.

Nowadays, Sapp spends much of his time at sea, often posting pictures of him fishing on a boat. He also appears to do a good bit of golfing. He also hosts a weekly sports betting podcast for BetUS alongside Brian Jones.

His daughter, Mercedes Sapp, is a soccer player at the University of North Florida.

While he can no longer enjoy the lavish lifestyle he used to, the big fella and Super Bowl champion is making the best of what he has left.
