Former Chicago Bear and Denver Bronco Jay Cutler is still a free agent, and now it has come out that the former Vanderbilt star may be looking at moving into the next phase of his career: broadcasting.
NFL reporter Mike Garafolo tweeted Thursday about his sources tell him that Cutler is not only 'exploring' the broadcasting career path, but that he's also already auditioned.
In the story, Garafolo also speaks with Cutler's agent, Gus Cook, who is careful to point out that Cutler still wants to sign with another team this offseason, but that he is exploring other options.
Via NFL.com:
"You'd have to talk to Jay about that," Cook said. "Any football player would be smart to explore his options in case he doesn't play anymore. But Jay is as talented as any quarterback out there right now."
Cutler had an injury-riddled season in 2016 for the Bears, but he would still be a quality backup option for a lot of teams in the NFL at this point in his career.
Still, it certainly seems like Cutler is inching closer and closer to the broadcast booth rather than the football field.
