Vancouver Canucks forward Jannik Hansen was fined $5,000 by the NHL Wednesday for his hit on the San Jose Sharks’ Tommy Wingels. The NHL’s Department of Player Safety came down with the fine after Hansen hip checked Wingels to the head in Vancouver’s win over the Sharks Tuesday. The hit occurred in the second period as Hansen come across ice to deliver the high blow. Hansen was assessed a two-minute minor for hip check to the head.
Incidentally as soon as Hansen left the box he would score on a breakaway goal.
The Canucks (21-11-3) defeated the Sharks (19-13-5) 3-1.
