Bad night for the Vancouver Canucks.

Canucks goalie Ryan Miller allowed four goals on just 14 shots and was pulled from the game. Vancouver (18-8-1) lost, 5-2.  But the biggest blow was the one taken by forward Shawn Matthias, who was knocked out of the game when he took an elbow from Maple Leafs defenseman Stephane Robidas.

Robidas received a minor for elbowing, and this is what he said after the game:

“I didn’t mean to hurt the guy. I just hope he’s fine. They called (me) for elbowing. I didn’t mean to hurt him, and I just hope he’s OK. I try to play physical … I don’t try to hurt people, that’s not what I’m trying to do. The play happened fast and I tried to close on him. … It’s one of those where I just felt awful.”

The video is below. And while he may not have tried to intentionally hurt Matthias, the video shows he threw the elbow right near the chin. No word on whether Matthias will  be able to play tonight against Ottawa Senators.

Expect the NHL Department of Player Safety to get involved.

Toronto improved to 14-9-3.
